The House of Nobility’s revised genealogies to be made available online next year

In time for its 400th anniversary in June 2026, the House of Nobility (Riddarhuset) will release a major digital publication: the revised genealogies of all noble families ever introduced in Sweden. This extensive resource will be freely accessible online.

Altogether, the material covers approximately 350,000 individuals from 3,072 noble families — 656 of which still exist today.

The total volume of text spans around 37,600 pages, making it 30 percent larger than the genealogies edited by Gustaf Elgenstierna between 1925 and 1936.

Elgenstierna’s genealogies, published in nine volumes along with two supplementary volumes in 2008 (edited by Carl Szabad and the Federation of Swedish Genealogical Societies), is the standard biographical reference work on the Swedish nobility. For each individual, information is provided on birth and death, marriage, career, and more — all placed within their genealogical context in the respective noble family.

The project aimed at updating and making the House of Nobility’s genealogies accessible has been underway since the Assembly of Nobles in 2013.
