Building information
Söderfors was built in 1700 (1756) in Karolinsk (Carolean) style.
The main building at Söderfors is a two-storey timber structure in the Swedish Carolean style, with a shingled manorial roof, similar to a clerestory, completed in the year 1700.
Between 1749 and 1756, it was rebuilt under the direction of architect Carl Hårleman. At that time, the building received paneled façades painted in a gray oil paint mixed with fine sand, after which the house was painted a second time. The original roof was replaced by a mansard roof, and a tower was added to the building—though this was demolished in the 19th century.
As part of the mid-18th century renovations, two wing buildings were erected. These were almost cubic in form with steeply pitched roofs. They were built in two storeys and had façades matching that of the main building. The eastern wing housed the ironworks office, while the other became the residence of the works’ bookkeeper.
In 2022, Söderfors Manor was purchased by Susann Fishman from San Diego, who has since transformed the estate into an international hotel and conference center.
