Koberg Castle – a royal castle! Since 1776 it has been under the careful care of the House of Silfverschiöld. Until his death in 2017, Koberg was under the care of Niclas Silfverschiöld who was married to the King’s sister, Princess Desirée.

The castle as we see it today looks ancient but was actually not completed until the 1890s. The origins of the house is not clear but it is believed to have been a fortified castle. Today the house boasts an impressive three floors, some 40 rooms and is 60 meters long!

The interesting architecture that we see today was created by Architect Fredrik Liljekvist who created an exterior that is reminiscent of the Vasa era. The central tower is inspired by the magnificent Vadstena Castle. Today, there is a separate property office tasked with looking after the estate’s no less than 350 buildings.
In 1776, when the American Revolution took off, the estate was inherited by Anna Margareta Alströmer who later married Nils Silfverschiöld. Koberg was inherited by Carl Silfverschiöld in 2017 and it houses one of Sweden’s largest privately owned book collections with some 55 000 volumes.
