Building information
Engsholm was built in 1912 in Romantic Nationalism and Renaissance style.
Engsholm Castle (Engsholms slott, sometimes Ängsholms slott) – an estate known since the 1300s but with one of Sweden’s newest castles.
The earliest known owners of what is now Engsholm, according to documents from the 14th century, were the sons of Magnus Ladulås — the dukes Erik and Valdemar, brothers of King Birger. Later owners included prominent families such as Örnfot, Ulv, Banér, Thott, Sture, and Sparre.
In 1912 the old house was haunted by fire and the state who then owned it decided to sell. It was purchased by Philip Wersén, the first CEO of Scania. He decided to build a new castle which was completed in 1916.
In 1986 it was acquired by the Johansson family who have turned it into a very popular hotel and event venue. It is open daily and we recommend enjoying their afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the gardens.
